1. Deflection Limits
1.1 Dead Load – Mullions/Transoms (Clause 5.6):
flimit = L / 500
L = span between supports (mm). Deflection must not inhibit drainage
or ventilation, nor allow contact with glazing.
1.2 Wind & Snow Load – Profiles (Clauses 5.7 & 5.8):
• L ≤ 3000 mm → flimit = L / 200
• 3000 mm < L < 7500 mm →
flimit = 5 mm + L / 300
• L ≥ 7500 mm → flimit = L / 250
1.3 Live Horizontal Loads – Transoms (Clause 5.10):
• L ≤ 3000 mm → flimit = L / 200
• L > 3000 mm → flimit = 5 mm + L / 300
1.4 Seismic Performance (Clause 5.11):
• Ultimate Limit: Determined by calculation or test, assessing
in-plane rotation of vertical members.
• Serviceability Limit: Post-earthquake, the system must pass
air- and water-tightness tests.
At Beus Facade, we design curtain‐wall details to safely accommodate
expected lateral drifts without gasket failure.
2. Performance Criteria
- Air Tightness: EN 12153 (test) / EN 12152 (classification)
- Water Tightness: EN 12154 (static) / EN 13050 (dynamic)
- Fire Resistance: EN 1364-3 (E, EI, EW)
- Thermal Transmittance: EN ISO 12631 (calc) / EN ISO 12667-1 (test)
- Acoustic Insulation: EN ISO 10848-1/2 (test) / EN ISO 717-1
- Impact Resistance: EN 14019
3. Design & Eurocode Alignment
- Actions assessed per EN 1991 (wind, dead, snow, parapet loads)
- Redundancy: No single component failure may cause collapse
- Parapet design checks use a 100 × 100 mm patch load as stipulated
4. Conformity Assessment (AVCP)
- System falls under AVCP 1 & 3 – FPC and third-party testing
- Mandatory declared properties: fire, wind, thermal, air/water tightness
5. Durability Testing
- Seals/Gaskets: EN ISO 9046–10591 ageing tests
- IGU performance: EN 1279 series durability tests
